Assistant or Associate Professor – Digital Humanities in Spanish

The Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in the digital humanities with an emphasis in visual and/or literary culture in Spanish, to begin Fall 2016.

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses (a total of two courses per semester) and to successfully contribute both to traditional learned publications and more cutting-edge digital endeavors. Special attention will be given to candidates who are able to use and participate within already existing projects such as the Texas Digital Humanities Consortium ( Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project (, and the International Center for the Arts of the Americas at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston ( As the comparative focus of this hire will be on Spanish-language literary culture and artistic production, vigorous dialog with other academic units in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is of high priority. With its current enrollment of 25% Hispanic students, the University of Houston is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, one of only three Tier One universities with this particular designation.

Candidates will be interviewed during the MLA convention in Austin, TX in January 2016. To receive full consideration candidates should submit an application with a cover letter, full CV, research statement, teaching philosophy, portfolio of sample work (<30 pages), two-page statement explaining their vision of digital humanities and how it pertains to the Department of Hispanic Studies at UH, and three professional references that would submit confidential letters of recommendation.
